We are pleased to announce that Superior Cabinets has been awarded as the winner of the first BDC Entrepreneurial Resiliency Award. This prestigious award is designed to recognize a Canadian business that has successfully undergone a turnaround or pivotal event in the past years and come back stronger because of it. The award was presented to Scott Hodson, President and CEO of Superior Cabinets in Regina in October 2014 by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), in partnership with the Turnaround Management Association, Montreal Chapter (TMA-Montreal).
Superior Cabinets has been though a dramatic turnaround over the past 5 years. “To give you the magnitude of the turnaround of our company, the last time we produced 25 Kitchens per day was in 2008, which took 400 people and 16 weeks to get it installed into the house. Today it takes 250 people and we install it in 6 weeks guaranteed,” says Scott Hodson, Superior’s President and CEO. “You can transform but it takes people and it takes a change in thinking, and often you need a crisis.” Superior’s transformation is an example of how Canadian manufacturers are changing to become more customer driven and dynamic in the face of increasing competition at home and abroad.
“Turnarounds are never easy and they always require bold, clear decision-making,” says Michael Hanlon, Attorney and TMA-Montreal’s First Vice President. “Superior Cabinets instinctively followed the approach we at TMA-Montreal give all of our corporate level renewal clients: Find your focus and then rally around that goal with relentless energy.” ¹
“Everyone says their employees are their best asset, I can attest to that. People get you through difficult times and drive prosperous times,” says Hodson. “There was no luck in our turnaround, it was all of our people understanding the need to change, putting their heads down and making it happen.”
We would like to thank the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and the Turnaround Management Association, Montreal Chapter (TMA-Montreal) for recognizing Superior Cabinets with this award. We would also like to thank our loyal customers and supply partners for the privilege of doing business together.
