There is no doubt that wood alternative cabinets are here to stay… at least for a while. There are many benefits of wood alternative cabinets such as affordability, durability and care and maintenance advantages. As with the fashion industry, trends and the “in thing” are rapidly changing. A good example of this would be to flash back to 1999, where our top selling cabinet was Oak with a Cottage stain.
With the decline of the market in 2008 and a lengthy global recession, consumer values began to change. Our industry identified a new customer, one that would accept non-wood products in cabinetry. At one point MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) was perceived as the “cheap” option, but in reality it is a product that is now extremely popular. MDF is also easy to finish and offers some amazing possibilities such as our Fusion Finishes on MDF.
THE SEARCH FOR THE BEST VALUE
There are many factors that drive customer decisions, but one thing that remains the same is that our clients want the best value. They deserve the best product, quality, aesthetics and durability, all for the best price. Wood alternative cabinetry definitely checks all of those boxes when it comes to customer acceptance, as mentioned in a previous article where we discussed the benefits of choosing wood alternatives for your kitchen cabinets.
We’ve seen wood alternative cabinets significantly grow in sales over the past 3 years.
Wood alternative cabinets aren’t for everyone, especially those that appreciate and love the natural beauty of real wood. So are wood cabinets out? Definitely not… Although we have seen a decline in wood cabinetry sales, we don’t believe they will be gone anytime soon.
