The kitchen is the most important room in your home. It is the hub of all activity. While it’s important to have a beautiful kitchen, it is equally important to have a functional space that will suit your storage needs and keep up with the challenges of your family’s activities. A Professional Designer can incorporate your ideas while keeping a focus on the necessities of a well-planned functional kitchen. They are there to guide you so that details of a successful design are not over-looked. Here are some items you will want to know before you meet with your kitchen designer.
Preparation tips for your first meeting
- Gather photos (from magazines, the internet) of designs that inspire you.
- Make a list of what doesn’t function well in your current kitchen.
- Make a list of the “must haves” for your new kitchen.
- Take rough measurements of your kitchen and note the locations of windows, doors, plumbing, gas and electrical. You may want to discuss changing the current footprint by removing walls or moving your plumbing. If you are building a new home, bring a copy of your blueprints. Your Designer will take final measurements prior to ordering your kitchen.
- Make a list of your needs for storage. Listing items such as small appliances, cookware and dishes will help your Designer plan for proper functionality in your kitchen.
- Consider how you use your kitchen. Are you a chef at heart? Is your kitchen a hub for homework and family life? Do you like to entertain?
- Determine your budget
