When we visit with customers who have never built a new home, or completed a kitchen renovation, they are typically lost on where to begin. We get asked all the time, “where do I start? How do I determine my style? What do I need to bring when I come in for my appointment?” In all reality, you do need to do some research before coming in for your first design consultation.
The following are some things you will need to consider before your design consultation:
What is My Budget?
It is important to have an idea of how much you would like to spend on your cabinets prior to your appointment. Your budget will help us steer you in the right direction when we plan the specifics of your space.
Make a Wish List
Make a list of items that you must have in your new space, and a list of things you don’t like. Kitchens are an area in one’s home where families do more than just cook. It is an area where you may entertain, socialize, do homework, make wine, or recycle. There are many new, innovative accessories and cabinets that make organizing a breeze.
The 5 Zones
The more thought that is put into planning the workflow of your kitchen will make cooking a lot easier. Planning the 5 zones will make your kitchen much more functional.
Determine your Style
Are you someone who buys kitchen and bathroom design books and magazines to stay on top of the ever changing trends? It is good to determine what your style truly is. Keep in mind that this can change with time, and it’s ok to like more than one style… I sure do! You will need to know whether you like kitchens that are light, medium, dark or combine different finishes. We can help you find ways to combine your styles so they blend together.
Measuring your Space
You will need to bring in your floor plan or a measurement of your space when you come for your appointment. Items to take note of are:
– Floor to ceiling height (in multiple locations)
– The location and sizes of all windows and doorways
– Locations of plumbing, electrical, and gas lines
– Appliance sizes (also consider if you are keeping existing appliance or buying new)
